Infinite Bach

Infinite Bach was born from a simple idea: to linger a little longer in the moments in Bach’s music that move us most deeply.

We all know those moments in music. A phrase we wait for. A harmonic turn that seems to stop time. A few bars that feel too beautiful to pass by so quickly. Infinite Bach grew out of the desire to stay with those moments a little longer.

In Johan Ullén’s reimagining, parts of Bach’s original concertos are opened up, extended and reharmonised. The music draws on cinematic harmony, minimalism and a contemporary sound world, while remaining deeply rooted in Bach.

At the heart of the project is not a wish to make Bach more intellectual or more distant, but more immediate, more felt, and more accessible to listeners who may not even realise they already carry a relationship to his music.

A clear example is the Largo theme, which in Infinite Bach is allowed to unfold more fully. What is already deeply moving in Bach is given more space, more time and, ultimately, an almost hypnotic power. Not repetition for its own sake, but deepening.

Recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2 with Christian Svarfvar and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Infinite Bach has reached far beyond the traditional classical audience, with more than 5 million streams, international performances, and choreographic productions by companies including Houston Ballet and Ballet BC in Vancouver.

The recording has also received attention in both Swedish and international press.
