Teaching has been a central part of my work for over fifteen years.

I work with a small number of dedicated violinists and musicians who are serious about developing their technique, musical expression and artistic identity at a high level.

My teaching draws on long experience from an international concert career and studies with some of the world’s leading pedagogues and performers. The focus is practical: how to solve concrete musical and technical problems, and how to perform with clarity, control and freedom.

Lessons are tailored individually and may cover everything from tone production and vibrato to interpretation, stage presence and guidance in building a professional career.

One-to-one coaching is available both in person and online.

BACKGROUND

The craft.
The discipline.
The love of music.

I began playing the violin at the age of four or five, taught by my father Sven-Ole Svarfvar — himself a violinist, trained at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles under André Gertler. In those early lessons, the foundation was laid for everything that followed: the craft, the discipline, and the love of music.

I later studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at The Juilliard School in New York. I had the privilege of working with Henryk Kowalski, Zakhar Bron and Robert Mann — three teachers of entirely different temperaments, but united by the same uncompromising view of what music demands: listening, presence and expression.

Over the years, I have drawn great inspiration from violinists such as Julian Rachlin, Janine Jansen and Nikolaj Znaider, whose ability to unite technical precision with musical freedom has profoundly shaped my own playing. I have also had the privilege of making music with them in chamber music settings over the years.
